Chiropractic Care and Hand Numbness/Tingling

Numbness and tingling in the hands and/or fingers can have a number of etiologies (causes). An often overlooked cause of this common condition involves nerve impingement in the cervical region.

An impingement in the cervical spine can be attributed to misalignment’s in the spine, muscle spasms in the cervical area, and arthritic changes.

Chiropractic care and the physical modalities that are used can greatly benefit the patient with symptoms of hand numbness and tingling. The chiropractic physician will use specific adjustments to improve alignment of the spine as well as related modalities such as massage, ultrasound and E.M.S. to reduce spasms and muscle tightness.

These therapies will remove the cause of the impingement rather than just treating the symptoms. Prescribing medications to reduce symptoms and inflammation will not address the underlying cause of the symptoms and will quite possibly have side effects, some of which are severe.

In summary, the Chiropractic physician will do the appropriate exam to determine the underlying cause of the hand tingling and/or numbness and will use the most effective natural approach to yield the best results without exposing the patient to harmful medications that only mask the true causative factor of the patient’s complaints.
